Offered here is an Austrian Steyr M95/30 Carbine chambered in 8×56R Austrian, one of the most recognizable military carbines of the early 20th century.
Originally designed by Ferdinand Mannlicher and adopted by the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the M95 is renowned for its unique straight-pull bolt-action system, allowing for exceptionally fast cycling compared to conventional turn-bolt rifles of the era. Following World War I, many surviving rifles were updated to the more powerful 8×56R cartridge, resulting in the M95/30 configuration.
This example retains its original military appearance and is marked “STEYR M.95” on the receiver. The receiver bears the characteristic “S” conversion mark, indicating rechambering for 8×56R ammunition. Matching serial number 2268 is present on the receiver, bolt handle, and stock.
The rifle features the correct military sights, sling swivels, cleaning rod, and straight-pull bolt assembly. The stock displays normal military handling marks and service wear consistent with age and use while remaining structurally sound.
The bore is in particularly nice condition with strong, well-defined rifling visible throughout.
