Here we have a genuine WWII Japanese Type 30 Bayonet, designed for use with the 6.5mm Type 38 Arisaka rifle, the 6.5mm Type I Carcano rifle (Italian contract for Japan), and the 7.7mm Type 99 Arisaka rifle.
Key Features:
-
Manufacturer: Toyoda Automatic Loom Works (豊田自動織機製作所) – one of the less common Japanese wartime bayonet producers.
-
Markings: Ricasso is clearly stamped with the three interlocking circles emblem and a diamond with downward-facing kana, the hallmark of Toyoda.
-
Design:
-
Hooked quillon crossguard (early war feature, phased out in later production).
-
Two-piece wood grips with birdshead pommel.
-
Serial number 12260 with acceptance proof marks.
-
-
Blade: Fullered blade approx. 15.75" in length.
-
Overall Length: Approx. 20 1/8".
-
Scabbard: Late-war all-steel scabbard, showing service wear and patina.
-
Frog: Brown leather frog, field style, unmarked.
Condition:
-
Blade shows wear, dark patina, and honest use marks but remains solid with no structural issues.
-
Wood grips display field wear and dents, consistent with combat use.
-
Scabbard and frog intact, functional, and complete.
Collector’s Notes:
-
Early hooked quillon examples are much scarcer than late simplified variants.
-
Toyoda Automatic Loom Works produced fewer bayonets than other major arsenals, making this piece more desirable to serious collectors.
-
Complete sets with bayonet, steel scabbard, and frog are increasingly hard to find.
