This is an authentic WWII production Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk I rifle, manufactured in 1943 at the Royal Ordnance Factory, Maltby (United Kingdom).
Markings:
Receiver marked “No.4 Mk I – M 1943”, with correct wartime British inspection and proof stamps. The “M” factory code denotes production at the Royal Ordnance Factory, Maltby — one of the three main wartime No.4 rifle producers in Britain, alongside Fazakerley and BSA Shirley.
Serial Numbers:
This rifle is highly desirable as it features matching serial numbers on the receiver, bolt, and magazine (marked AV189**) — a rare and collectible three-piece matching set from Maltby’s 1943 production.
Condition:
Wood shows honest service wear with no major cracks, retaining a solid structure. Metal retains its original wartime finish with expected age patina and light handling marks consistent with careful postwar preservation.
Bore:
Bore remains strong and bright with well-defined rifling — excellent shootable condition for a rifle of this age.
