This is a classic Winchester Model 1897 pump action shotgun chambered in 12 gauge. Designed by John Browning, the Model 1897 is one of the most iconic early pump-action shotguns and remains highly collectible today.
This example features a 30-inch barrel with FULL choke, confirmed by both factory marking and bore measurement (approx. .725 bore diameter, .693 muzzle). The shotgun retains its original blued barrel and receiver, now showing honest wear from use and age, including thinning finish and areas of light pitting.
The rifle is equipped with a single bead front sight and traditional corncob-style forend, paired with a smooth wooden buttstock. The buttstock has been fitted with an aftermarket rubber recoil pad (Whiteline), replacing the original buttplate.
Serial numbers on the receiver and barrel are matching, which is a desirable feature for collectors. Mechanically, the shotgun appears to function reasonably well, with typical wear consistent with its age.
The wood furniture shows visible handling wear, including cracks, gouges, nicks, and general storage marks. Metal surfaces also display age-related wear, as expected on a working example of this era.
Overall, this is a solid representative example of a Winchester 1897 with good collector appeal, suitable for display, collection.
