U.S. Willson Mining Gas Mask with Accessories

This is a vintage U.S. Willson BM-1423 mining gas mask set, designed for protection against organic vapors and acid gases. Officially approved under the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Mines standards, this set includes both the protective mask and its original support equipment.

• Gas Mask: Black rubber facepiece with intact head straps, marked "Willson, Made in U.S.A." and "BM-1423", along with additional strap markings. Original glass/plastic lenses remain intact. Hose is present but broken off.

• Filter Canister: Yellow-painted metal, marked "Willson, Canister, For Use Only In Acid Gases & Organic Vapors", with warning labels and instructions. Stamped "Use Before Sept 15 1973". Measures approx. 8" in length.

• Canister Carrier: Green canvas carrier with lace-up ties, shoulder strap, and various metal fittings. Marked "BM-1423".

• Storage / Carry Case: Original wood and metal case, marked "Gas Mask, Willson, Type WIG 01, Permissible Gas Mask for Organic Vapors, No. 1423" with official Department of the Interior, Bureau of Mines seal. Case measures approx. 13.5" x 9.5" x 6", fitted with a sturdy carry handle and interior bracket/clamp for hose and accessories.

Condition:
Mask and canister show typical period wear, with clear legible markings. Lenses intact; hose detached. Carry case remains solid with legible front and interior labels.

Collectibility:
An excellent example of mid-20th century U.S. industrial safety equipment, this Willson BM-1423 gas mask set represents both mining safety history and Bureau of Mines–approved respirator development.
