This rifle is a Soviet M44 Mosin Nagant carbine chambered in 7.62x54R and manufactured at the Izhevsk arsenal in 1944 as indicated by the clear 1944r Izhevsk arsenal marking on the barrel shank. The M44 was introduced late in World War II as a shorter and handier carbine variant of the standard Mosin Nagant infantry rifle and features the characteristic permanently attached side folding spike bayonet.

The rifle retains its original military configuration including the integrated folding bayonet assembly correct front sight base and original tangent rear sight. The metal finish shows typical wartime military finish and handling wear consistent with service use while still presenting very well overall.

The stock is a Soviet hardwood stock showing normal service character with visible grain and handling marks accumulated over time. The stock remains structurally solid and retains its original configuration with correct sling escutcheons and hardware.

The bolt assembly displays several unusual inspection style markings that resemble German eagle style proof marks. Similar eagle type stamps are also visible on other components.

The bore is bright with strong visible rifling. As shown in the bore photo the rifling remains well defined and the barrel appears to be in very good shooting condition.

Overall this is a solid and attractive example of a WWII production Izhevsk M44 Mosin Nagant carbine with good mechanical condition a bright bore and an interesting set of unusual inspection markings that may appeal to collectors.
