This item is currently located in Asia and is not physically in stock at our Canadian location. Once the $800 CAD deposit has been received, we will arrange international shipping and the subsequent import process.

The estimated arrival time is approximately 6 weeks. This is an estimate only, and actual delivery time may vary due to international shipping, customs clearance, or other circumstances beyond our control.

Once the item arrives in Canada, the buyer will be required to pay the remaining $3,200 CAD + applicable taxes to complete the purchase. Applicable taxes will be calculated according to the buyer's province or territory in Canada.

Shipping within Canada is included in the purchase price, with no additional domestic shipping charge. However, due to the collectible nature and value of this item, we strongly recommend local pickup at our store whenever possible.

If the item is lost during international shipping or, for any reason, cannot ultimately be delivered to us, the $800 CAD deposit will be refunded in full.

If the item arrives successfully and is consistent with the actual-item photographs and description provided in this listing, but the buyer decides not to complete the purchase for personal reasons, the $800 CAD deposit is non-refundable.

Item Description

This is a WWII-period Japanese military sword fitted in Type 98-style gunto mounts, with a clearly visible 「藪下義光」 (Yabushita Yoshimitsu) four-character signature on the nakago (tang).

Yabushita Yoshimitsu (藪下義光), whose real name was Yabushita Fujio (藪下不二夫), was a Japanese swordsmith active in Seki, Gifu Prefecture, during the Showa period. According to surviving Seki swordsmith records, he was born in 1915 and was officially registered as a Seki swordsmith on April 1, 1940 (Showa 15). He was one of the swordsmiths working within the Seki military sword production system during the WWII period.

Surviving examples of Yabushita Yoshimitsu's work are known with different forms of signature, including examples signed simply with "Yoshimitsu" as well as signatures incorporating the Yabushita name. This sword retains a clearly visible 「藪下義光」 signature directly on the tang, providing an important identifying feature of the blade.

The blade measures approximately 63 cm in cutting-edge length, with a motohaba (width at the base) of approximately 32 mm. The blade remains in good overall condition, with a visible hamon and intact kissaki. The nakago retains natural age-related oxidation and patina, with the 「藪下義光」 four-character signature clearly visible.

The sword is fitted with Type 98-style military mounts, including brass fittings, traditional handle wrapping and samegawa (ray skin), together with a leather-covered military scabbard with suspension hardware. The fittings and leather show age and service wear consistent with the overall character of this WWII-period Japanese military sword.
