Offered here is an original Mauser pattern bayonet manufactured by Österreichische Waffenfabrik-Gesellschaft (OEWG) of Steyr, Austria. The ricasso is clearly marked with the distinctive “OEWG” manufacturer stamp, identifying it as a Steyr-produced contract bayonet supplied for export Mauser rifles during the early 20th century.
The bayonet features a bright single-fuller blade measuring approximately 10 inches in length. The blade remains clean with strong original finish and only minor handling marks consistent with age and service use. The hilt retains its original wooden grip panels secured by two domed rivets, showing honest wear and patina while remaining solid and intact. The pommel incorporates a functional push-button release mechanism typical of Mauser contract bayonets produced for overseas military contracts.
Included is the correct all-steel scabbard, which displays matching period construction with a numbered frog stud. The scabbard fits the bayonet properly and shows matching age patina consistent with long-term storage and field service.
Based on the OEWG marking, blade configuration, and hilt design, this bayonet is most commonly associated with South American Mauser contracts, particularly those corresponding to the Model 1912 pattern used by countries such as Chile and other export clients. Exact contract attribution may vary and is reflected in the pricing accordingly.
This is a desirable example of a Steyr-manufactured contract Mauser bayonet, representing the global export influence of Austro-Hungarian arms production during the pre-WWI and early 20th century period.
