Serial Numbers & Markings

Manufactured in 1941 by Mauser-Werke AG in Berlin-Borsigwalde, Germany, this K98k retains clear ar 41 factory and date markings on the receiver.

The receiver and bolt assembly have matching serial numbers (5207). Several other components have mismatched numbers, including the magazine assembly, rear sight, and barrel bands.

Multiple original German military acceptance markings remain visible throughout the rifle. The German eagle marking on the receiver is still visible, although the swastika beneath it is heavily worn and barely discernible.

The buttplate features a separate five-digit number (92704) along with a small stamped marking.

Possible Post-War Arsenal Refurbishment

Although this rifle does not display any obvious post-war Eastern European arsenal refurbishment or rework markings, we strongly suspect that it underwent refurbishment at an East German or Eastern European arsenal after WWII, based on the mismatched parts and evidence of rebluing on multiple metal components, including the receiver.

This assessment is based on the rifle's physical characteristics, as no definitive markings have been identified to confirm where the refurbishment took place.
