Vintage American-made Type A-1 leather flight jacket, featuring the classic early aviation jacket design with black leather, brown knitted collar, cuffs and waistband, and two front flap pockets.
The original interior label reads “TYPE A-1 / DWG. NO. AN-6501 / A.C. ORDER NO. 31-800 P.” The jacket also retains its “Crafted With Pride in U.S.A.” label and Leathercraft Process care label.
Based on the labels and overall construction, this appears to be a vintage American-made reproduction of the classic Type A-1 flight jacket rather than an original early military-issued example.
Based on the appearance, texture, grain and natural creasing of the leather, it is likely horsehide, although the original label does not specifically identify the leather type.
Overall condition is very good for its age. The leather remains supple with attractive natural vintage wear and creasing, with no obvious damage or tears. The knitted collar, cuffs and waistband are also well preserved.
