1. Historical Background & Collectibility
The AR-7 Explorer was originally developed by the American firearms manufacturer ArmaLite in the late 1950s as a lightweight, compact survival rifle designed for portability and outdoor use.
“AR” stands for ArmaLite Rifle, a designation also used on other famous ArmaLite designs, including the AR-10 and AR-15.
The original ArmaLite-produced AR-7 is particularly desirable among collectors. Since the design was later manufactured by several different companies, early examples bearing the original ArmaLite markings and Costa Mesa address hold special historical and collectible significance.
The original ArmaLite AR-7 became widely recognized through its appearance in the classic 1963 James Bond film From Russia with Love, starring Sean Connery. Its association with the iconic 007 franchise has made it a sought-after collectible among both James Bond enthusiasts and vintage firearms collectors.

An excellent addition to any ArmaLite, vintage American .22 rifle, or James Bond collection.
