This item is currently located in Asia and is not physically in stock at our Canadian location. Once the $800 CAD deposit has been received, we will arrange international shipping and the subsequent import process.

The estimated arrival time is approximately 6 weeks. This is an estimate only, and actual delivery time may vary due to international shipping, customs clearance, or other circumstances beyond our control.

Once the item arrives in Canada, the buyer will be required to pay the remaining $4,700 CAD + applicable taxes to complete the purchase. Applicable taxes will be calculated according to the buyer's province or territory in Canada.

Shipping within Canada is included in the purchase price, with no additional domestic shipping charge. However, due to the collectible nature and value of this item, we strongly recommend local pickup at our store whenever possible.

If the item is lost during international shipping or, for any reason, cannot ultimately be delivered to us, the $800 CAD deposit will be refunded in full.

If the item arrives successfully and is consistent with the actual-item photographs and description provided in this listing, but the buyer decides not to complete the purchase for personal reasons, the $800 CAD deposit is non-refundable.

By paying the $800 CAD deposit, the buyer confirms that they have read, understood, and agreed to the Special Order terms above.

Item Description

Offered here is a Japanese sword bearing a clearly visible 「兼氏」 (Kaneuji) two-character signature on the nakago (tang). The blade has a long and elegant profile with a prominent hi (groove) and is accompanied by a Japanese Jūhō Tōkenrui Tōrokushō (銃砲刀剣類登録証 / Firearms and Swords Registration Certificate).

Based on the currently available photographs, the overall configuration of the blade, the nakago, the form of the signature, and surviving records of Showa-period Seki swordsmiths, this sword appears consistent with a Showa-period Seki work signed Kaneuji and is attributed to Yoshida Reiichi (吉田鈴市), who worked under the smith name Kaneuji (兼氏).

Surviving Showa-period Seki swordsmith records identify:

Smith Name: Kaneuji (兼氏)
Real Name: Yoshida Reiichi (吉田鈴市)
Seki Registration: September 9, 1938 (Showa 13)

Yoshida Kaneuji was one of the swordsmiths associated with Seki during the Showa period, and surviving wartime examples bearing the Kaneuji signature are known.

It is important to note that Kaneuji is a historic smith name that was used by multiple Japanese swordsmiths over several centuries and is not unique to Yoshida Reiichi. Therefore, without further professional authentication or additional documentation conclusively identifying the smith, we do not present the attribution to Yoshida Kaneuji as an absolute authentication.

Based on the characteristics currently visible, we consider the most appropriate description to be:

Showa-period Japanese sword signed 「兼氏」 (Kaneuji), attributed to Seki swordsmith Yoshida Reiichi (Yoshida Kaneuji).

Blade & Measurements

The blade measures approximately 71.5 cm in cutting-edge length, with approximately 7.3 mm of sori (curvature) and a motohaba (width at the base) of approximately 32.5 mm.

The blade is of traditional shinogi-zukuri form, with a long profile, substantial width at the base, and a prominent hi (groove).

From the available photographs, the overall blade profile and kissaki appear intact. The nakago retains natural age-related oxidation and patina and bears the clearly visible 「兼氏」 two-character signature.

The sword is currently presented in traditional-style mounts with a black saya, wrapped tsuka, samegawa, and metal fittings. Please refer carefully to the actual-item photographs for the condition and configuration of the blade, nakago, signature, fittings, and saya.

Japanese Sword Registration Certificate

This sword is accompanied by a Japanese Jūhō Tōkenrui Tōrokushō (銃砲刀剣類登録証 / Firearms and Swords Registration Certificate).

This is an official registration document issued under Japan's sword registration system, recording identifying information associated with the sword, including its type, dimensions, curvature, mekugi-ana, and inscription.

The original registration certificate and its recorded details are shown in the actual-item photographs.
