Offered here is an original German M1917 Ersatz bayonet with its correct all-steel scabbard. This simplified wartime pattern was produced during the final years of the First World War as part of Germany’s resource-saving “Ersatz” program. The bayonet features a bright single-fuller blade measuring approximately 10 inches, with a clear “W.G.” manufacturer marking on the ricasso.
The hilt retains its original wooden grips secured by two domed screws, and the pommel shows an intact press-button release. The finish displays honest age patina consistent with field service, while the blade remains clean and free of major pitting. The accompanying steel scabbard fits perfectly and bears a matching-period serial number.
This pattern was originally designed for use with the Gewehr 98 and Kar98a (98AZ) rifles, and will not properly mount on later-pattern Kar98k rifles due to differing muzzle ring and locking slot dimensions.
A fine and representative example of a late-war German Ersatz bayonet—well-preserved and highly collectible.
