French Mle 1874 “Gras” Bayonet

Offered here is an original French Model 1874 “Gras” bayonet, manufactured by Manufacture d’Armes de St Étienne in 1879. This example features a straight, single-edged blade with a pronounced central ridge, the standard T-slot mounting system with functional spring catch, and wooden grip panels secured by rivets.

The blade is clearly dated 1879 on the spine, and bears visible St Étienne arsenal markings.The locking mechanism functions properly, and the scabbard remains solid and complete with uniform aged patina consistent with service use.

A well-preserved and authentic example of France’s Model 1874 “Gras” bayonet, produced for the Gras metallic-cartridge service rifle in the late 19th century.
