Inspired by the classic 19th-century phrenology bust, this decorative ceramic head reimagines a Victorian scientific icon through the lens of traditional American tattoo art. The familiar anatomical divisions are combined with timeless tattoo flash motifs—including swallows, roses, anchors, daggers, banners, and script—creating a striking blend of vintage curiosity and modern tattoo culture.
Finished in a cream crackle glaze, the surface intentionally reproduces the appearance of aged ceramic while highlighting the vivid artwork. Standing approximately 23 cm (9 inches) tall, the bust makes an eye-catching display piece for a bookshelf, tattoo studio, barber shop, office, or cabinet of curiosities.
Unlike traditional phrenology heads that focus solely on Victorian medical history, this version transforms the familiar form into a celebration of tattoo heritage, making it equally at home among oddities collections, industrial interiors, and contemporary art displays.
The piece remains in excellent overall condition with clean glazing and vibrant graphics. The crackled finish is original to the design and intended to create an antique appearance rather than indicating damage. A distinctive decorative sculpture that is certain to become a conversation piece in any collection
